The Lightship

Port of Auckland

Brief —

To create a new promotional to create a platform in order to engage the Auckland public and build social license for the Ports of Auckland as well as utilising port assets to give back to Aucklanders.

Solution —

We created a new contemporary art space for emerging artists on the outside of the Ports of Auckland car handling building.

The Lightship is a 110-metre-long, 13-metre-high light wall, and is made up of seven panels with nearly 8,500 individually programmable LED lights.

The large-scale digital light wall on Quay Street provides Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland with a unique place for public art to be enjoyed.

The platform changes artists every six weeks to give a variety of Auckland’s artists the opportunity to showcase their talents.
